Today Is A Great Day!

"This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it" (Psalm 118:24).
Usually, we define a great day as one overflowing with good reports, success and glad tidings. At the end of the day, we might look back on our activities and say: "Today was a great day for me..." Maybe we accomplished much that we intended to do at the beginning of the day or received something beneficial.
But when we look at the above text, it intimates that the psalmist made that statement not at the end of the day, but at the beginning, for he said: "...we will rejoice and be glad in it..." He was looking forward, anticipating something worthy of rejoicing.
What kind of day is worth rejoicing and being glad about? Everyday is worth our rejoicing, no matter what the circumstances may be. Why? Because everyday holds a unique opportunity for learning, correcting our mistakes and making advancement. Today, because it is filled with great potentials, could be a great time for new beginnings.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life and it is a great day because today you are expressing the sum-total of all that you have learned in the School of Life and that gives you opportunities for a better tomorrow. Today is the pinnacle of your life. It is the farthest you have reached in your journey in the land of the living.
Primarily, today is a great day because God created it and everything God created, He has called it "good." It takes great depths of understanding to recognize the "goodness" of each day and the grace of God in our affairs. All the triumphs you have gained and disappointments you have endured along the pathways of life are summed up in your personality and character today at this very moment.
Some wise person has said: "Some days are diamonds, some days are stone..." Truly, life is made up of "diamonds and stones" experiences, but no matter what may seem to go wrong today, know that you can learn from it and make changes for your future. This means that whatever adversities may come your way, God can and will use for your good by turning it around if you seek His intervention within it. It is all a matter of your choice, patience and God’s timing. This is a powerful truth, worthy of our contemplation.
What do you see in your life today? All the mountains you have climbed, all the valleys you have crossed, all your triumphs and all your failures are the outcome of all your choices in all your yesterdays and they have determined what you see in your life today.
You might say: "If today is such a good day, then why do I have this or that problem? Why am I sick? Why do I not have enough money to pay my bills? Why do I have so many troubles?" Never mind. God is still in control. He is still God of the mountains and God of the valleys and can use your adversity for your highest blessing, if only you will go to Him in communion, supplication and humility.
We have heard the cliché: "Beyond every dark cloud there is a silver lining" but as growing children of God, let us be more emphatic by saying: "Beyond every time of darkness there is a golden blessing." The secret of enjoying every day, no matter what you see, is to know that "God still works all things for good to them that love Him," and keep your anticipation high!
Make it a practice to speak powerful words into your daily activities ahead of time. As you awake in the morning, speak words of vision, creativity and joyful anticipation into your day. As you learn to look beyond adversity you will see God’s transforming power at work in your life. You will then be able to say like the psalmist: "This is the day which the Lord hath made...I will rejoice and be glad in it."
Rejoice in today. Be glad in it. Cherish it. Learn from it. Take valuable lessons from today and apply them to the rest of your days. Yesterday is gone forever, tomorrow may never be ours but today while we yet have consciousness let us be creative for the future. Let us look for the good in today and give thanks for it, knowing that it is by the hand of God that we are yet in the land of the living. Have yourself a great day.
