The Walk of a Lifetime

Have you ever marveled about the path you travel with the Lord? It’s as if our steps carry us into various forms of landscapes much like the world around us. One might be in a garden, while another is struggling in a vast unknown desert. Then there’s the lakes, and oceans, rain forests…anyway you get the picture. Our lives are and should be ever changing.

At this point in time, many may be walking in a beautiful lush fruitful garden. Our hearts are growing closer to the Lord daily. There is a true hunger and thirst for more of Him, His ways and the truth we find in His Word. We find ourselves digging deeper, searching and learning of Him and hidden truths never seen before. Our intimate times of prayer and worship are a real source of joy as we press in, straining to hear His heartbeat.

Then, there are those of us who seem to be lost in a vast unknown desert. No matter how we turn or what we try, it’s as if we have swallowed a mouth full of sand and gulping down more by the second. Nothing we read, or hear seems to have any measure of moisture. We can see by the light of day that we are totally and completely alone in this barren wasteland. In the night, a terrible darkness surrounds us with nothing but loneliness chilling us to the bone.

Others are blessed as they swim in a warm and inviting pool. It may even be the Pool of Siloam, a place of peace and healing. The water is just right and as you float in this endless bliss you know that you never want to leave. You are totally immersed in His presence, basking in His love. Healing flows over you just as the water laps softly upon your sides – healing of your past, your heart and your spirit. For once you are at peace with who you are in the Lord. You feel safe and secure.

Some are lost at sea. We sit in a dingy, with no paddles, sails or motor. As the wind and waves buffet us, we know we have absolutely no choice but to trust Him. We might not understand but we must trust. For the one who controls the winds also controls the waves. We must learn to rest in this little tiny dingy – just a few pieces of wood surrounded by this vast expanse of water, ever knowing that even though the waves could capsize us at any moment He is still in control. There is nothing outside His reach. He is forever aware exactly where His little ones are at this precise moment.

Then there are the rain forests – lush and green. The mountains with their treacherous paths and yet at the top yielding a magnificent view as far as the eye can see. Valleys deep and wide filled with their own blessings. Rivers and streams, forests and meadows; each unique yet filled with their own sense of beauty. Places that are cold and barren, others hot and humid. Yet each has a place in our life as we travel towards becoming more like the One we serve.

As you step forward into the path He has for you, may you feel His loving hand guide you and hear His voice soft and clear ever beckoning you forward into the adventure that He has placed before you. No matter what landscape lies before you remember this. He is ever faithful and true. He will never leave nor forsake you. His eye is forever watching over you.
