The Lord’s Little Ballerina

The lights overhead reflected off my 4 year old granddaughter’s blonde hair causing a halo effect. The sheen cascading down her back looked like spun gold. Her little face was upturned with her eyes closed.
Standing in our church sanctuary at the front altar, we all were basking in the presence of the Lord during the awesome worship time. The flags were being waved and they bellowed softly as they were lifted high. The shofar (ram’s horn) was blown at each corner of the room. Teenagers gathered up at the front swayed with the music with arms lifted high or reverently standing still.
My granddaughter and I have gone up to the side of the altar for brief moments in the past before she goes to her classroom. Now on this Sunday morning, as I stood behind her in worship, I noticed that she was intently looking at a young girl about 14 to the left of us. Her radiant smile and reflection of joy and peace was on her face in worship to the Lord Jesus.
Raising a little arm as she closed her eyes, my granddaughter was mimicking the young girl and doing everything she did. They made eye contact & gave each other the “thumbs-up” sign with smiles on their faces.
Quietly and reverently, my granddaughter slowly and deliberately began a unique dance—similar to ballet. It was one of the most precious moments in my life to watch. Without any coercion from me, she began her own expression of love to the Lord. Stretching her leg out in front with toes pointed and her arm gracefully arched over her head, she demurely swayed to the music.
In today’s world of ungodliness and darkness, I pray that the Lord will open her spiritual eyes to the Truth and Light of His love and know Jesus personally in a special relationship because it will be so needed and life-giving in the days ahead.
God wants to equip His children in times of need to overcome life’s adversities and make us stronger in Him. I desire this for not only my own granddaughter, but for everyone who desires this in the Body of Christ.
Then when it seemed that time stood still, the Lord spoke to me in that moment and said, “As you take great joy in seeing your granddaughter dance before Me, so I also take great delight in seeing you dance and worship before Me.” He alone can turn my heart to joy and my feet to dancing!
“Let them praise His name with dancing and make music to Him with tambourine and harp.” Psalm 149:3
