“All things are possible to him who believes” - Mark 9:23 (NIV)
In this passage about healing, there is an important lesson for us to learn about faith. We are not required to understand it first in order for us to have faith in God and believe that He will keep His promises.
“If you can? ” said Jesus (indignantly). “Everything is possible for him who believes.” Jesus is saying here that our faith always needs to be in the “Power and Person of God”, not in our limited understanding of who we think He is. He is telling us that we should never question His ability to accomplish what He says He will do.
This is great news for us because it frees us from worrying about how much or how little faith we actually have for our healing and focuses our attention on the One who is completely faithful. There is no doubting the faithfulness of Christ. He will honor all of His promises and will be faithful regardless of how you are feeling or how faithful you are being today.
Our faith is not in our ability to “believe” or to “rise” to the occasion. Our faith is in HIM who is all-powerful, all loving and who truly desires to heal us and make us whole. It is in HIM, it is not in us.
A faith that is focused on solely on Christ, frees us to receive the inner healing that He has already promised us in the Scriptures.
Prayer:
Oh Lord Jesus, I ask You to increase my faith in You. Remind me of all the times You have been faithful to me and help me Jesus to stand on those times when things are rough. Thank you Lord that You are always faithful. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.
Question:
Who is your faith in? Is it in your ability to believe or is it in the “Godhood of Jesus?
Healing Exercise:
Write down five ways that God has been faithful to you and answered your prayers over the past week. Ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of specific examples of God’s faithfulness. Place this list on your refrigerator and add to it over the next several weeks. Now when you start to have doubts in your faith you will be able to look back and see where the Lord has answered your prayers and been faithful.
Memory Verse:
“By experience you will see that the Lord is good; happy is the man who has faith in him.” - Psalm 34:8 (NIV)
