Simply Ask

“So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it.” Hebrews 4: 16 NLT

Children have confidence and honesty that is delightful. They know what they want and how to get it - just observe a child in a supermarket checkout. “Mommy, mommy can I have this or can I have that?” Children know that mommies or daddies have the answer to all their needs. With that confidence, children simply ask.

Just like a child, God desires that I come with all my needs and desires. According to the above verse, I can confidently approach my heavenly father. Like a child, I simply ask with boldness for my daily needs. However, this boldness requires frankness and confidence: that children naturally possess. Do I have that confidence and boldness like a little child? Do I know that God is gracious? Is His grace sufficient for my overwhelming need? If so, like a little child, I ask my heavenly father to meet that need. Yes, with confidence, I ask for grace, mercy and the victory from those overpowering sins. He has the power to deliver. Why? Because this verse says that "There I will receive (not maybe but receive) his mercy, and I will find grace to help me when I need it.”

God knows before hand what I need. When I confidently ask for help, I humble myself by admitting that I’m helpless. Helpless to overcome anger or bitterness or a new job or wayward children, God already provides the grace to overcome. The only action that pleases, God is my coming. Come! Come now! Humble yourself like a little child and voice that need to Jesus. Don’t hesitate, God is powerful. Come now, and receive your answer by simply asking.
