Seven Promises from Your Husband: #3

I am committed to partner with you, in our marriage, in our parenting, and all God gives us to do.

There are at least three unions within a Godly marriage. The physical union with the intimacy and pleasure it provides. A mental union with sharing of each other's hopes and dreams, and the working together to make them come true. Finally there’s the spiritual union, the growing together of each other's spirit. Only God can work this, He causes us the oneness factor to become real.

The apostle Peter wrote “Husbands, likewise, dwell with them with understanding, giving honor to the wife, as to the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life, that your prayers may not be hindered” (1 Peter 3:7).

Although I am still exploring the depths of what this entire scripture means, this I believe to be true. When I live with understanding towards my wife, treating her with respect, and honoring her, my prayer life will be substantially more effective. The moment I commit myself to this act of service our partnership is made stronger. Together we are a stronger entity; through this strength we can then parent more successfully, and flesh out the marriage covenant more effectively. Our vision becomes clearer when we combine our strengths and burdens become easier to carry. There is purpose to our steps, not just aimless wandering through life. We can stand securely in the fact that we are ONE, and ONE is NOT the loneliest number in this cause. The bond that God has form in my marriage is a wonderful source of comfort and power. It’s the power to change lives and bring encouragement to others. By fleshing out our partnership, our covenant, it impacts our children and the society we live.

God purposes a husband and wife to be one in every phase of life. This includes hard and easy times, the better or worse in the vows we took. The challenge is to grow closer through these time saturated with love, empathy and understanding. The Word states that love is faith, hope and charity. Faith helps us believe in each other and the stands we take mutually. Hope encourages us about our future together. And charity fills us with grace that gives us Christ like love for each other.

Blessings,
Jay

“What greater thing is there for two human souls than to feel that they are joined together to strengthen each other in all labour, to minister to each other in all sorrow, to share with each other in all gladness, to be one with each other in the silent unspoken memories?”
