Pure Dynamite!

The flames race along the ignition cord. A construction worker yells, “Fire in the hole.” Three seconds later the building is gone and the landscape has changed forever. When the smoke clears, everyone understands the power of dynamite. Do I understand this power to change the landscape of my spiritual life? Dynamite is not just a physical power source but, also, a heavenly source. Dynamite remains dormant until ignited. How do I ignite that spiritual dynamite?
My journey to understanding dynamic power begins with God’s perspective. Within each believer is “the incredible greatness of his power for us who believe him. This is the same mighty power that raised Christ from the dead.” (Ephesians 1: 19, 20 NLT) How do I begin to understand this power? The Ephesians were exhorted to: “pray that you will begin to understand the incredible power.” (Ephesians 1: 19NLT) Therefore, I began to pray for spiritual understanding.
However, there is more to this spiritual dynamite then my understanding. How do I ignite the flame that starts my explosion? I began with my fears: the dark, being alone and terrified of driving a car. Just the thought of driving a car, my heart would pound and my body would tremble. Over and over again, the Holy Spirit would say: “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power.” (22 Timothy 1: 7 NLT) Overcoming this fear would take spiritual dynamite! There was no denying, what the Lord wanted. Now, it was my turn to act. With trembling hands, I made an appointment for driving lessons.
Clinging to the promise that Jesus would provide the power, I began my first driving lesson. With a racing heart and trembling hands, I sat behind the wheel waiting for instructions. “Mrs. Charlton, drive to the stop sign, turn left, please.” Clinging to the steeling wheel, I pulled away from the curb. Now, my soul was screaming: “But, LORD, I can’t do this!"
“You can, if you focus on me!”
“OKAY, LORD!”
Now, focusing upon “the incredible greatness of his power for us (Patricia) who believe him (Jesus).” I waited for the next set of instructions. With each act of obedience came the confidence and power to blow up this fear. A simple task like driving my car is a living testimonial to this dynamic power.
However, spiritual dynamite is not a toy for me to play with! It has the power to change my life and those around me. Once that flame is lit, there is no turning back! I can say: “By his mighty power at work within us, (Patricia) he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we (Patricia) would ever dare to ask or hope.” (Ephesians 3: 20 NLT). That is pure dynamite!
