My Major Milestone

by Ginnylynn Rodriguez
Published July 28, 2004

One-half century old. The thought makes my joints hurt. With eyes closed, I hear my wall clock ticking off the minutes and hours before my 50th birthday. The refrigerator's constant reassuring hum is heard in the background.

With my bare feet propped up on my favorite recliner, I rest in the silence of the day. I once heard in the past, that most humans spend the majority of their lives fearing the future and regretting their pasts. I suppose I've experience my own share of those sentiments.

With this milestone looming in my near future, I tend to regret that I haven't accomplished more in my lifetime. This sentiment is a total waste of my energy and time. Only God holds the future, and is in control of my life. Discouragement and dissatisfaction are tools in the devil's hand used to rob God's children of the spiritual life and energy He desires for His children to experience.

God alone orchestrates our lives and we choose to either embrace life or death with our words, attitudes and decisions that we make every moment.

When we focus on Jesus the Christ and trust Him completely, He will lavish upon us the wisdom, strength and hope we need to overcome life's challenges and obstacles that stand in our way.

Resting in His promises for my life, I can therefore confidently approach my birthday without fear or regret.
