Love - Help Yourself, Then Pass It On!

"Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go." -Joshua 1:9 (NIV)

These words are repeated countless times in Scriptures as God compels Joshua to continue in fearless conquest over the enemy. One might assume Joshua was a bit nervous about leading an army of run-down, ragged men who had just retured from a 40-year tromp through the wilderness into battle against numerous well-rested enemies. Later, however, after the defeat of an army "as numerous as the sands on the seashore," Joshua has his generals come forward and place their feet on the necks of each defeated king. His words to them sound strikingly familiar, and when I read them I can't help but grin.

"Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged. Be strong and courageous. This is what the LORD will do to all the enemies you are going to fight." Then Joshua struck and killed the kings and hung them on five trees, and they were left hanging on the trees until evening. -Joshua 10:25-26 (NIV)

Now is that a classic or what? Can't you just imagine God's grin as He looks down on Joshua and his army and says, "I taught him that one." Wow. What a great example of passing on the wisdom God gives to us, whether it is received through others or more directly from God Himself. We are part of an ever-evolving circle of family whom we are called to encourage in Christ throughout our lives. When we share God's love with others, He can and will do powerful things.
