Hungry for More

An unbelievable silence filled the air as one of the women speakers quietly spoke into the microphone. “Ladies, we will see you in the morning. Good night and God bless.” Over? How could it be over? It seemed we just started and yet that was hours ago.
Slowly, reality set in as the people on the platform turned to leave. Still the congregation stood waiting. They wanted more, more of the presence of the Lord.

There was no question that this room full of women had met with the Lord that night. The message they heard had given some hope, others had been convicted of actions and attitudes and still others had felt chains of despair and depression drop from their shoulders. Yes, there was absolutely no question that hearts had been changed in a major way.

Have you ever been in that type of service? If so, than you know exactly what it felt like.
This wasn’t a hyped-up entertaining service, but a time when hungry hearts were being touched and filled with the presence of their Savior. The musicians had been playing softly as women cried out, prayed, praised, worshiped, longing to touch the hem of His garment.

Hundreds of women walked silently out of the large meeting area to return to their room. Many moved without a single solitary word to the entrance of the elevator desiring to stay in that place before the Lord. That was the only thing that matter at that moment.

I wonder if this is how Joshua felt in Exodus 33. Moses and Joshua had been at the tabernacle of meeting before the Lord. There is no question that Moses had met with the Lord. In fact, in this passage reveals the Lord had spoken to Moses. Moses knew his time before the Lord was finished. His heart was full and his spirit satisfied as he departed and turned back towards his own tent.

Yet, here is Joshua. He wanted more, needed more and longed for more intimacy with Jehovah. This man knew his time with the Lord was not finished. Oblivious to all that was surrounding him, Joshua had his heart set on one thing, being in the presence of the Lord. Scripture does not reveal how long he stayed in that place, but without a doubt he would stay until his spirit and soul was satisfied with all the Lord had for him.

This is a beautiful example of how our hearts should be before the Lord. Are we as willing to stay at that place when everyone else is slipping away? It might not be in a meeting, but at home alone when there is no one there but you and the Lord. Are you willing to press in to all He has for you? Do you take time to sit quietly in His presence waiting for Him to speak to your heart as He did to Moses?

Maybe it means rising early to wait for that still small voice. Or perhaps it means sitting alone in a quiet place while the world rushes by outside. To some He will speak in that quiet place in their heart. Others will find His message hidden in a verse that suddenly comes to life in the Scriptures. Still more will find in the words of a song that suddenly springs up deep within their spirit. The method does not matter; only finding that place of intimacy to fill the hunger for more.

My heart’s desire is that each of us may be as Joshua was on that day so long ago. Willing, ready and waiting to find your secret place before the Lord.
