Have You Encouraged Jesus Today

“Then cometh he to a city of Samaria, which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour. Then cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.”

John 4: 5 - 7

King James Version

I believe when Jesus was weary and sat on the well that day that He was not only weary from His journey; I believe that He was also weary of being rejected by people. I think when Jesus asked the woman to give Him something to drink that He was also asking her to encourage Him. I believe that if the woman would have put her arms around Him and hugged Him, that His heart would have been encouraged.

If we will listen with our hearts, we will hear our precious Saviour saying to us “I need to be encouraged just like you do because it hurts Me when people reject My love, criticize Me, curse Me and judge Me. I died for them; I can do no more. It is up to them to open the door of their hearts and let Me come in. I call Christians to serve Me but they aren’t willing to die to self and leave their comfort zones to follow Me.”

How we must break the heart of Jesus day after day when we refuse to answer His call to serve Him. When we ask Jesus to forgive us for our sins and come into our hearts to be our personal Saviour, we are saved for all eternity. After we have invited Jesus in our hearts to be our personal Saviour, we need to do more than just warm the pews in church. We should prove to Him how much we appreciate all that He has done for us and how much we love Him by surrendering our lives in full time service to Him.

I was guilty of doing nothing but warming the pew in church for many years. I am so glad that we have a merciful Heavenly Father who forgives us when we hurt Him and fail Him. We must be about the Master’s business while there is still time. If we truly love Jesus as we should love Him, we should be eager and anxious to serve Him. Remember, the level of our service to Jesus depends on our level of love for Him.

Let me repeat this as it is so important and it needs to go from our intellect into our hearts “The level of our service to Jesus depends on our level of love for Him”. How much do you love Him? Are you willing to shut off the television and call someone who is lonely and hurting and who desperately needs to know that someone cares about him or her? How do we encourage Jesus?

We read in the Bible “For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in: Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me. Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink? When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee? Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” (Matthew 25: 35 - 40).

The way that we encourage Jesus and give Him something to drink is by loving one another and by being an encouragement to one another. You may not know what to say to people who are broken hearted and discouraged but you can put your arms around them and hug them for Jesus. Sometimes it is better not to say anything because words won’t mean anything to people who are hurting. It is what we do that matters to them and proves to them that we love them and care about them. Are you encouraging Jesus by loving people unconditionally? Have you encouraged Jesus today?
