Breaking Bread: A Memorial to Christ

Would you take communion with me?
On the night Jesus was betrayed He sat down with the twelve and had supper with them. This time though, it was different from any other meal that He had eaten with them. On this day, He would break bread with them and give unto them His body and His blood as a token of remembrance.
In 1st Corinthians 11:23-30 we can read about that Last Supper and the taking of the body and blood of Christ. We read of how Jesus gave thanks and gave unto the disciples, telling them to do so in remembrance of Him.
"For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, that the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:
And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.
After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, this cup is the New Testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.
For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord's death till he come.
Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.
But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.
For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body. for this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep."
No matter where you are today, at home, at church, no matter where you are you can partake of Communion right now. Just get some juice or something to drink and a cracker or wafer and partake of Communion.
You do not have to be in church to take communion. When you partake of Communion, you are causing the healing, refreshing, power of Jesus to flow into you. You are remembering what Christ did for you when you take of Communion. It is a memorial unto Him and life giving unto you! You do not even have to be with anyone other than the Lord.
Where does it say you cannot take Communion alone? Where does it say Communion must only be taken in a church? And if we went strictly by the way the disciples took it we would have to take it in an upper room! Let us not get into semantics but instead realize God’s Word was written for each of us individually!
Now before you partake you need a moment alone with the Father. Simply go to Him in your own way asking Him to forgive you and to take away all sins and wrongful thoughts. Let Him know that you desire to be cleansed from all iniquity. Do not pay attention to anything around you.
Let nothing distract you. If you are at home turn off the TV or Stereo and let it be just you and God! If you are with a group then let them know to not be looking around at others. Do not worry about what is for dinner or what the other is wearing. When you do that you take your mind off God and partake in an unworthy manner.
You are only unworthy when you fail to go before God asking Him to cleanse you and remove all iniquity from you. When you take communion, you need to clear your mind of every thing but thoughts of God. Think only on Christ and His love and grace. Begin to reveal your self before the Father asking Him to totally cleanse and purify you right now and keep your thoughts on Him.
The Lord on that night said "this is my body, take it and eat". Take the wafer between your thumb and finger and break it and eat. Then He took the cup and said "this is my blood poured out for you". Take and drink. Once you have drunk begin to thank Him, thank Him for giving His life for you. Thank the Father for sending Him to grant you healing, power, strength, and life everlasting. Thank you Jesus for giving Your life for me. Praise God! Thank You Jesus, thank You Father God.
This we do in remembrance of YOU, for in the Word it was written "as oft as" which in the Greek means, "as many times soever" which implies that it is an ordinance to be partaken of often. So this we will do alone with YOU or together with YOU in remembrance of what YOU have done for us and because YOU are our Lord and Savior forever and ever!
