An Eagle's Nest

“As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young. Spreading out its wings." Deuteronomy 32: 11
High on the everygreen branch sat an eagle’s nest. Within this nest are several tiny eagles. Gently a mother nudged one eagle to the edge of the nest. This trembling baby eagle peaked over the edge. With claws clutching the nest, this eagle stood firm. This was the day for his first flight. Even though baby eagles are born to fly, they are timid.
Suddenly, the nests shook. This mother eagle knew exactly when to shake this nest. Over the edge went the tiny eagle. Flapping and flapping his tiny wings, the eagle tried to catch the updraft. Down, down the eagle went. Swooping in, with talons outstretched, the mother eagle caught this eagle. Now, carried under her wings, the eagle returned to the nest. Over and over again, this eagle would try to fly. Only by practice would its tiny wings develop the strength to fly.
Like this eagle, I felt God shaking my spiritual nest. At the first nudge from his Spirit, I too refused to move from my comfortable surroundings. Timid and afraid was I. Over and over again his Spirit would nudge me closer and closer to the edge. Again, I refused to leave my comfort zone. At his appointed time, he allowed a trial to shake my nest. Over the edge I went - flapping and flapping my wings of faith. Down, down I went. Swooping in with his powerful Spirit, the Lord returned me to my nest. Like that eagle, my wings of faith grow stronger with exercise.
Has God stirred your spiritual nest? Are you like that eagle – timid and afraid? Then over the edge you must go.
